The 12 Apps of Christmas site is now open as a free resource and is covered by the Creative Commons Licence CC BY-NC-SA 2.0.  Some great ideas and suggestions for managing learning, research, information and teaching resources via a selection of apps.

Datapac: new print driver for mobile devices now available


Attention students who print from laptops, tablets or smartphones. The Datapac print driver has been replaced this week so students who wish to print from mobile devices need to download/install the new driver from www.ditprint.ie.

This is especially important for those wishing to print their exam numbers next week from their mobile devices.

Please note you need to install the new Datapac print driver even if you had the older version working on your device.

Christmas & New Year Opening Hours

Extended Library opening hours after Christmas: 

DIT Library Kevin St will be open on Friday 02 January and Saturday 03 January 2015 from 10am - 5pm to facilitate students studying for exams. Usual semester hours will resume on Monday 05 January.

Past exam papers for Science : find them fast

Need past exams papers before 15th December? Try this quick start guide:
  1. Start at the DIT Library website. In the E-Resources section click on Exam Papers.
  2. Select the purple Exam Papers link
  3. Choose the College of Sciences and Health from the list
  4. Click on the year(s) you require
  5. Select your course code e.g. DT204 and then your module code. Save/open the pdf files.
If you access the past papers from outside the DIT network you will need the Student Intranet passwords. Contact us at 01-4024894 or at kst.library@dit.ie if required.

Please note DIT Library scans and indexes every exam paper received from the DIT Kevin St Examinations office. If your exam paper is not on the list please contact the exams office or your module co-ordinator.

Web of Science access


 
There has been intermittant access / reduced availability to the Web of Science database since last Friday. The issue has been logged with Thomson Reuters and hopefully there will be a speedy resolution to the access issues. We'll keep you updated and apologies for any inconvenience.

Need help finding a language e-magazine or newspaper database for an assignment? Try the new Languages Subject Guide which aims to help undergraduate students get started with the Library eResources. This includes a help-sheet and e-tutorial for the Nexis UK database as well as a full listing of other resources and guides from first year to final year.

GAMSAT text now available for bioscience students

The GAMSAT Gold Standard book is now available for bioscience and biomed students. (3rd edition, 2013, edited by Ferdinand Bratt.)
The title is currently in the Short Loan collection at the Library information desk and can be used in the library or in the group study rooms.

New laptops for student use

A number of new laptaps have been added to library stock this week. They are for student use on a 3 hour loan basis and are for use in the Library only. The laptops are hdmi cable enabled and may be used with the data-screens in the Library Group Study Rooms. Students should use a memory key to save docs.

Did you know that DIT students and staff have an online library account?  If you are not on-campus this week you may wish to know how to renew your books online, reserve a library book or view your reading history

You can also use your DIT Library PIN and/or DIT email password to access ebooks, databases and ejournals, (including scholarly articles, standards and conference papers) from a laptop or from home. For more information see Off Campus Access

  • Saturdays: 09.00-16.30

New for nutrition students: copies of the Manual of Dietetic Practice textbook (5th edition by Joan Gandy) are now available in the Short Loan and Lending sections of the Library. The shelf number is 615.854.

From this week on a member of the Datapac help-desk team will be on site in Kevin St Library from 12.15 - 13.15pm, Monday to Friday to answer your printing questions and queries. Or contact Datapac outside of these hours at helpdesk@ditprint.ie.

Scanning query? Try the Scan to Email option with Datapac Printing

There have been lots of queries about scanning at the Library Desk recently. The quickest and easiest way is to use the Datapac Printing service to scan a document or image to your DIT email account and then save or download as required. See the tutorial video below to get started. For more info on Datapac see Ditprint.ie.



 How to Scan
  1. Touch Email on the Datapac screen
  2. Enter your Student number, you can do this by typing it on the printer keypad or Touch Screen
  3. Enter your 4 digit PIN on the keypad or Touch Screen
  4. Touch “more options” tab at the end of the screen
  5. Scroll down until you find “Job Build”
  6. Change the job build option from off to on. 
  7. When you are finished scanning please log off the printer using the yellow button on the keypad.

The newly published edition of the Manual of Dietetic Practice (5th edition, 2014) by Joan Gandy is now available as an eBook. Click on the book title link above to access. You will need a Library PIN if accessing the textbook outside the DIT network.

Hardcopies of the title are also on order and should arrive in to both the Short Loan and Lending collections shortly.

FAO DT223 dietetics students: McCance & Widdowson Composition of Foods 2014 now available


After many publication delays over the past year, copies of the new edition of McCance and Widdowson's The Composition of Foods (7th Summary edition, IFR, 2014) are finally available for use from the Short Loan Collection at the Library info desk. More copies are on the way for the Lending Collection.

Discover Research Night Dublin

50 science-themed events take place in central Dublin this evening as part of Discover Research night. The free annual Europe wide event aims to open up the work of scientists and researchers in the capital.

Events taking place around the city centre will include 3D visualisations of the brain, a chance to tour lab facilities and an opportunity to help astrophysicists rank solar eruptions seen in the sun. There are also  research debates and /workshops. So if Culture Night wasn't your thing last Friday, give Research Night a go!

  • Start at the DIT Library Catalogue
  • Select Title Search from the drop down menu
  • Input your course code e.g. DT299
  • Click on the required information links

Finding exam papers: quick start guide


It's never too early to start downloading exam papers as we've discovered this week at the library desk. As there have been so many inquiries here's a quick guide to getting started:
  • Start at the Library Website. Under the E-Resources heading select the 'Exam Papers' link.
  • Choose College of Sciences and Health or College of Engineering (Kevin St) and then 2014 etc
  • Click on your course code e.g DT299. Select your module code and download the pdfs as required
Please note the Student Intranet password is required to access the exam papers off campus. Contact us at 01-4024894 or email us if needed.

Printing and copying: Datapac queries

At this time of the year the most common inquiry at the Library information desk is how and where can students print and copy. All the information you need re. locations, top-ups,  video guides and pricing is available at ditprint.ie.  A useful list of How to guides and FAQs  is also available.

    There has been a bit of confusion about the library opening hours during August. Just to clarify that until 15th September the current opening times for Kevin St Library are:
    • Monday - Friday: 9am - 5.15pm
    • Saturdays: Closed

    Datapac top-up kiosk working again


    The Datapac top-up kiosk problem is now sorted and is available again for use in the library. Apologies for any inconvenience to students studying for supplemental exams over the past two weeks. Students can still check their Datapac account balances, view 'how-to' videos and top-up online at http://ditprint.ie.

    SCONUL Access: card application update



    Need to renew an existing SCONUL Access card or apply for a new one? 

    From now on, eligible DIT users (staff and research postgraduates) should apply online for membership. An e-mail confirmation will be issued after the online application has been processed.
